Transforming a 20' Step Van into an Experiential Marketing Vehicle

Overview:

Transforming a 20' step van into a mobile experiential marketing vehicle was an exciting project for our team at Sapphire. Beatbox envisioned a versatile and eye-catching vehicle that could serve as a dynamic marketing tool at various events. The project involved cutting out the side of the van, installing a roof stage, adding a hydraulic stage that folds down from the side, and applying a vibrant full graphic wrap.

Platform: Pre-Owned 20’ Freightliner MT45, Heavily Modified

Step 1: Cutting out Side Panel for the Dropdown Stage

The first major task was to carefully cut out the side panel of the van to make way for the dropdown stage. This process required precision to ensure the structural integrity of the van was maintained. We used specialized tools and techniques to make clean cuts and prepare the area for the stage installation. Reinforcements were added to ensure safety and stability.

Step 2: Fabricating the Side Stage & Lift

With the side panel removed, we began constructing the dropdown stage and lift mechanism. This involved fabricating a sturdy platform that could withstand frequent use and various weather conditions. The hydraulic lift system was integrated to allow for smooth and effortless operation, ensuring the stage could be easily deployed and retracted during events.

Step 3: Fabricating Rooftop & Side Stage Railings

Safety is paramount, so the next step was to build railings for both the rooftop stage and the side stage. These railings were designed to be robust and reliable, providing secure barriers to prevent any accidents. The materials chosen were not only durable but also aesthetically pleasing, complementing the overall look of the vehicle.

Step 4: Fabricating Staircase

To ensure easy access to the rooftop stage, we fabricated a custom staircase. This staircase was built to be both functional and safe, with non-slip surfaces and handrails. It was designed to be foldable for convenient storage when not in use, making it a practical addition to the vehicle’s features.

Step 5: Stage Fabrication Complete

With the stages and railings in place, the fabrication phase was complete. The vehicle now featured a fully functional rooftop stage and a hydraulic side stage, both designed to meet the client’s specifications. This stage of the project marked a significant milestone, as the van began to take on its new identity as a mobile marketing powerhouse.

Step 6: Graphic Wrap Install

The final step was to apply the custom graphic wrap, transforming the van into a visually striking experiential vehicle. Our design team worked closely with the client to create eye-catching graphics that aligned with their brand. The wrap was meticulously applied to ensure a flawless finish, enhancing the vehicle’s appeal and making it a standout at any event.
